 Plain Hypocrisy by Jalal Abualrub
Jalal Abualrub wrote: Just like the Old Testament, Islam condemns the apostate to death, "He who reverts from his religion, then kill him"; [an authentic Hadeeth collected in as-Silsilah as-Sahihah 487]. This is the Law of Islam and we certainly believe in it. As for the Old Testament, which Christians believe was revealed to ancient prophets by their lord and savior, Jesus, who never claimed to be the lord or the savior, here are its words without any comment: Deuteronomy 13: “1. If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, 2. And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; 3. Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. 5. And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee. 6. If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7. Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 8. Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: 9. But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. 10. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 11. And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you. 12. If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying, 13. Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known; 14. Then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you; 15. Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword. 16. And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again. 17. And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers; 18. When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.”

just because 1 hadith says that apostates are to be killed does not mean that ALL the apostates are to be killed. maybe the apostates that Holy Prophet(Peace Be Upon Him) referred to were exeptions because of their charecter |

This is Jalal Abualrub:
But, it is far from being only one Hadeeth. Even if it were only one Hadeeth, there is not a single narration for the Hadeeth I quoted that says that it was said about a certain person, or that it pertains to certain characteristics, or that it is not applied when Muslims live in the future. ‘May be’ is not a scientific argument; ‘may be’ is pure conjecture for which one needs to bring proof other than a simple ‘may be’. Here is one more Hadeeth from the Prophet, salla-llahu `alaihi wa-sallam, collected by Bukhari and Muslim, “The blood of a Muslim who confesses that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that I am His Messenger, cannot be shed except in three cases: In Qisas for murder, a married person who commits illegal sexual intercourse and the one who reverts from Islam (apostate) and leaves the Muslims.” Note that I only mentioned one more Hadeeth here. One Hadeeth should be sufficient for those who truly believe to submit to Allah’s commandment, {It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allâh and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error}; [33:36]. However, in case it is said, “Two Hadeeths cannot alone make killing the apostate the law in Islam”, then I will bring more, inshaallah!

As-Salam-u-alaikum and thanx for replying
" ‘May be’ is not a scientific argument; ‘may be’ is pure conjecture for which one needs to bring proof other than a simple ‘may be’."
i said 'maybe' because of the Ayats of the Quran quoted on this page:
http://www.faithfreedom.com/ali_sina_exposed/apostates.html
eg. "Those who believe, then reject Faith, then believe (again) and again reject Faith, go on increasing in Unbelief--God will not forgive them nor guide them on the Way." (4:137)
And by the way, about your book 'Prophet of Mercy', has it been released? if so will it be available in the UAE? I live in Dubai and cant wait to buy it |

As-salamu alaikum warahmatullah
Ali Sina is funny: he claims to be an apostate and directs his bitter mockery and attack at Islam, which caused his disillusionment which led to his being an apostate, so he claims. Yet, he admits to never being Muslim to begin with. Sina’s readers should decide which of his two conflicting claims is true. I should add that befittingly, Sina uses Ayah 4:137 as if seeking a ruling about his own-self. I will deal with Ali Sina later on inshaallah; he will have to await his turn. But, here are some words about Ayah 4:137:
1. Ayat 4:137-146, and beyond, describe hypocrites, {Verily, those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe (again), and (again) disbelieve, and go on increasing in disbelief; Allâh will not forgive them, nor guide them on the (right) way. Give to the hypocrites the tidings that there is for them a painful torment…Surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell…Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allâh, but it is He Who deceives them. And when they stand up for As-Salât (the prayer), they stand with laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allâh but little. (They are) swaying between this and that, belonging neither to these nor to those; and he whom Allâh sends astray, you will not find for him a way (to the truth — Islâm)…Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them. Except those who repent (from hypocrisy), do righteous good deeds, hold fast to Allâh, and purify their religion for Allâh (by worshipping none but Allâh, and do good for Allâh’s sake only, not to show off), then they will be with the believers. And Allâh will grant the believers a great reward.}
2. Thus, Ayah 4:137 describes hypocrites, those who repeatedly believe and then disbelieve, swaying between this and that, belonging neither to these nor to those, until they die in the state of disbelief. As a consequence of their hypocrisy and attempts at deceit of Allah, their hearts are sealed [as Ibn Kathir puts it] and thus are turned away from the correct guidance in this life. Then, they die in this state, and thus, Allah will not forgive them, meaning after death [English translation of Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Vol. 2, Pg., 611], because, {Allâh forgives not that partners are set up with Him (in worship)}; [4:48].
3. Ayah 4:137 does not discuss ‘Islamic Law’, i.e. capital punishment for he who, if caught and insists on reverting from Islam, is to be killed. Rather, Ayah 4:137 is about Allah not forgiving those who die as apostates, whether they die a natural death or publicly declare their reversion from Islam and are thus executed as the Islamic Law requires. This punishment is ‘awarded’ to them --having been excluded from being led aright in this life because they repeatedly believed and disbelieved and did not repent sincerely from this behavior during this life-- because, “…they remain on disbelief until they die” [as Ibn Kathir reported from Ibn Abbas; Vol.2, Pg., 611].
4. These are three issues: those who repeatedly believe and then disbelieve will not gain guidance while still alive [4:137]; will be killed according to Islamic Law if they publicly renounce Islam [the Hadeeths I quoted]; Allah will not forgive them after death because they died on disbelief [4:137 & 48].
5. Nothing in Ayah 4:137 indicates that it is about capital punishment for the apostate as the Hadeeths command it [which is physical, as is obvious, and in this life, as is obvious]. Rather, this Ayah is about Allah not forgiving those who die in the state of disbelief, {…those who believe, then disbelieve, then believe (again), and (again) disbelieve, and go on increasing in disbelief; Allâh will not forgive them, nor guide them on the (right) way. Give to the hypocrites the tidings that there is for them a painful torment…Surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell…}.
Inshaallah, the first two booklets in the series entitled, The Prophet of Mercy, will be in print this summer. Keep checking the website for updates, and jazaka allahu khairan again.

Many Muslim groups in the US, like CAIR, MAS, MPAC, said that since there is no compulsion in Islam, how can the Afghan government execute the apostate… your website said that the apostate should be executed, this is not from Islam only, but in Christian times (pre-Islam)... And… what about a person who might have left Islam and then came back, and died Muslim...if s/he had been killed the first time, s/he would not have had the chance to return to Islam... of course ultimately who dies as Muslim is Allah's Will...and it is already written in His Book. |

Mr. Jalal Abualrub,
A few questions I would like for you to answer:
1. How many verses are there in the Quran calling for the death of anyone who leaves Islam? Please list them all.
2. How many ahadeeth are there calling for the death of anyone who leaves Islam? Please list them all with complete reference.
Thank you,
Abdullaah |
